Everybody has a life plan. Emma François was studying anthropology in South of France at the Montpellier's University. She could have become a researcher or an archaeologist, following her pleasure of discovery. But she didn't. She indeed found her own path elsewhere as the happy and proud founder of her own ethical, sustainable and timeless clothing brand with a commitment for Fair Trade: Sessùn. After having a true crush on the artworks of Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo, she went for a trip in Mexico to visit her home. There she met people who celebrate their ancient heritage using techniques, know-how and Art to weave, embroider, sew... She came back home so amazed that she decided she wanted to print her memories of those ancient civilisations of South America, she felt in love with, on contemporary fabrics. From this moment on, the passionate fashion designer, who is convinced that 'If you’ve got no feeling for what you’re doing it’ll never work!', never stopped. Only a few years after the launch, she already was awarded 'the Jeune Créateur' prize by the Maison Mode Méditerranée in 1999 and 2001. From the beginning in 1996, at Sessùn, a point of honour has been to offer quality products, made with respect for people and know-how. Sharing is also very important for the Sessùn's crew. The Sessùn Alma space, an over 170 square meters former soap-making factory located in rue Sainte a few steps away from the Old Port of Marseille, is just about that: it is a place of art and culture, creative flourishing, an ode to craftsmanship and know-how. But it is also a living space designed by talented Marseille architect duo Marion Bernard, where people can grab a bite to eat, meet up and take the time to read or talk while enjoying a coffee. A peaceful place where it is possible to discover a selection of artisans, artists, limited editions and taste a sunny cuisine. More than fashion, the 26-year-old French brand promotes a real lifestyle philosophy and doesn't forget the brides, accompanying them during their big day with its Sessùn Oui.
