Cabin ANNA

Netherlands

With a fascination for architecture and design, but no architectural training, after obtaining his BSc and a MSc in Physics from the University of Amsterdam in 2015Dutch Designer Caspar Schols became a changemaker by chance, fulfilling his mother’s dream to sleep under the stars in their backyard. Grew up with a strong connection with Mother Nature thanks to his parents,  Schols belongs to this rising community of new builders. A new generation of committed and environmentally-friendly architects and designers, who have chosen to promote a committed, slow and sustainable architecture. It all started with a beautiful personal project for her mother Anna, called 'The Garden House': he completed in only 10 months a garden cabin for her. A flexible space where she could read or paint, organize family dinners, welcome her grandchildren, stay closed to Nature. Unexpectedly, the project was featured in an article published on prestigious design magazine Dezeen, and became the third most popular architectural project of 2017 in the Netherlands, and led to several award nominations, including the Dirk Roosenburg Award in Eindhoven, the Radical Innovation Award in New York, and the Deezen Small Building of the Year Award in London. Awarded with an educational scholarship at the Architectural Association in London (2016-2019), Caspar went on building a few prototypes (9) before designing and building the first ANNA Origin, which, since April 2021, is available to rent at Holenberg located at the beautiful Dutch De Maashorst nature reserveIn October 2020, wooden and modular Cabin ANNA, which is a dynamic home in the shape of an open platform, allowing residents to live with the elements, by playing with the configuration of the layers of the house, was presented to the world. The futuristic and eco-friendly concept ANNA Stay won the internationally acclaimed 2021 Architizer A+Awards Project of the Year Award. In the summer of 2022, the talented designer and his team built their 10th ANNA called ANNA Collection, whose home is the wild and preserved Dutch Biesbosch nature reserve. In the near future, Caspar's aim is to build a network of Cabins Anna around the world. He wants to share his deep love for Mother Nature and offer the opportunity to other people to fully reconnect with Nature, as he did after his father passed away when he was 21 years old. Nature helped him to heal. From this moment on, he has always cherished her more than ever and appreciated every single day he lived close to her. He will always remember this special night he, his brother, and  his parents used to spent under the stars, sleeping on a thin mattress in a field in France every year. A beautiful and emotional memory, he keeps alive sleeping in a openable Cabin ANNA. The only tiny home, which can offer you the feeling of sleeping outside and feeling protected at the same time. A unique experience .
