Willing to make a difference in this world is surely a bold and challenging plan. A plan that hopefully, can turn itself into reality. Sooner or later. Stiina Huhtanen, an eco-preneur and founder, born and raised in Finland and living in Berlin, is working on it with strong commitment and dedication. She is indeed putting all her heart on a daily basis to make it happen. She has recently established a young niche and premium contemporary and rooted-into-happy-memories knitwear brand called ANN. Paying this way a beautiful tribute to her beloved grandmother, a skilled and passionate knitter who always carried her needles with her, whose name was ANNikki. But also celebrating, supporting and promoting the traditional and timeless art of knitting that she grew up surrounded by. Her first attempt at knitting came at the age of nine, in a primary school handicraft class, where she struggled to complete her slippers. After a long period of not practicing at all, ultimately she started knitting again and, it became a meditative practice that reconnected her with her roots. Deeply inspired by her granny's legacy that she is trying to carry on with love, Stiina is now a woman on a mission: giving back value to human work in an industry dominated by machines. At ANN, each unique garment is designed for durability, repairability, and timelessness and then carefully and ethically hand-knitted by skilled German female artisans, using exclusively 100 % natural mulesing-free and undyed German Merino wool, sourced from Bavaria. Precious wool spun and finished in a third-generation family-run mill in Bavaria, where almost every step of production takes place in-house. An easy and natural decision for the founder who aims her label to be as sustainable as possible. Supporting local shepherds, reducing transport emissions, and giving this resource the attention it deserves is a big part of the journey. Regarding her choice, she explained " Wool is practical, comfortable, and sustainable. It is naturally odor-resistant, crease-proof, and durable, so it stays in shape for years. Unlike synthetics, it is biodegradable and ecologically responsible.". Proud ambassador of slow fashion, Stiina is now doing her best to ensure that ANN can grow carefully, always staying true to slow fashion values and to her own personal core values. Proving that clothing can be both sustainable and desirable, without compromise is the main goal. Once upon a time knit essentials (Beanies, balaclavas and accessories) that bring warmth, and a touch of quiet luxury to your wardrobe. Sweaters should soon come to expand the collection. Stay tuned.
