Project Ö
Archipelago National Park
Finland
Have you ever thought or dreamt to move on a desert island to live like a modern Robinson Crusoe? Alekxi Haütmaki and Milla Selkimäki did it. Together with his graphic designer partner, the spatial designer and founder of Bond Creative Agency has conceived and created a cabin project called the Project Ö (“Ö” means ‘an island’ in Swedish). The idea was to spend their summers off-the-grid and in total self-sufficiency on the 5-acre island, located on the edge of the Archipelago National Park in the Finnish Archipelago, they've purchased a few years ago. They made it. They use solar power for energy and filtered sea water for drinking. The two houses they have built (a main cabin with a sauna and a workshop for70m² in total) have been designed to be as compact as they can without compromising the functionality and comfort. The architecture selected by the couple pays a tribute to the traditional Finnish Archipelago aesthetics, with
cabled roof, long eaves, extended gutters and vertical cladding. The shape of
the cabins is long and narrow. Well done.
