By Hélène Battaglia
I could simply describe myself as a defender of the truth in this life.
How and when did you discover your deep passion for home decor and interior design?
As a perceptive individual who was unhappy with living in a false manner, I could see people in a globalized world lacking individuality. My deep love for life and the beauty it holds inspired me to express myself through interior design, crafting homes that embody the essence of each person.
When did you know this passion of yours could definitely be your true path, the one that could make you really happy?
Beauty is the outcome of a life that is well comprehended and appreciated through love for it: wild, untamed, elegant, and refined. Every human action has its origins and evolution in this understanding. Architecture has provided me insight similar to that of a branching root across all fields—science, mathematics, cooking, and medicine—it's present in everything. Consequently, architecture has been a profound passion for me, aiding my understanding and visualization of life. I also share this knowledge and experience with my two daughters, Alba and Gisela, who have been raised with this life-understanding philosophy.
Once you made your decision, how did you make it happen?
Visiting countries and learning on location. Shaping myself and uncovering new facets of my personality in each place where I resided. The personality of every individual is truly shaped by various cultures that affect their charisma and preferences. By honoring the genuine essence of my clients and remaining true to their values and character, I successfully created their authentic environment
In the last decade, you have become a popular, very esteemed and inspirational female slow entrepreneur in town as founder and owner of a little gem called SC Café Central. What was it about?
Inside SC Café Central, the past coexisted with the present. As both history enthusiasts and learners, my partner Guillaume and I crafted a unique space filled with a carefully curated selection of books that reflect our concerns, a hint of culture through Japanese coffee and tea, selected slow ethical fashion brands, jewelry that represents history and culture, niche refined eco-conscious perfumes, and cosmetics inspired by nature. The architecture that was restored within felt as if it had always been there, unaffected by modern trends. The modern elements that entered were born from this setting, similar to my designs for auxiliary furniture intended to enhance the historical context, created by replicating past designs while blending them with contemporary aesthetics in my current creations.
Menorca has provided and continues to provide me with the peace and quiet necessary for my creativity. The sea and nature are my companions and friends; I feel a connection to them. Though I am a very solitary individual who seeks silence, I also feel a sense of belonging to the city where I observe the vibrant activity of people. Paris is the city to which my soul, essence, and emotions are tied. Additionally, I share a profound bond with Japan, where another facet of my being exists.
I enrich my life through writing, cooking, and designing; these are the elements that create my ideal existence.
Talented artist Guillaume Serena who is your life partner is also a big part in your professional journey. How do you work together?
Guillaume is my partner, my great and only love. We are two human beings united in soul with the same language of feeling and love, who communicate without words, only feeling and perceiving.Writing, music, dance, and social interactions transform into art, allowing each of us to express oneself in one's own way. His art and my designs merge and create a language in the home. It's not about decoration; it's about the language of life itself. Our pain is also part of our art.
As a committed supporter of slow fashion, a few years ago you collaborated with American fashion designer Michelle Boor, founder of bespoke Made-to-measure Luxury shirtdresses Micky. How did this opportunity come up?
Regarding Michelle Boon, I immediately sensed a freshness and uniqueness in her style that I could not find in the collections of others. Her immense passion for the value of casual dressing and her ability to transform it into elegance captivated me. I was excited by her proposal to collaborate as two brands: two women united their countries through a culture of dress based on sustainability and quality of craftsmanship, representing elegance in simplicity and naturalness, integrating masculine patterns on a feminine body that I adore. She provided me with what I strongly advocate for: a woman who is more feminine with a masculine touch that emphasizes her femininity.
How and when did you meet Khadija and Florent Cristol-Barthès, ambassadors of slow beauty as founders of the young, promising and innovative French "farm to face" skincare brand, 100% natural and certified organic?
Meeting Khadija and Florent in my -now closed- boutique Papillon was a true pleasure for me. From the start, we connected well as we share a similar outlook on life. I was immediately captivated by the project they aimed to develop in Menorca.
Which kind of connection linked you to them?
Their change in life and their commitment to this new journey appeared significant to me and impacted my admiration and support for them. We share a common coherence in life as we believe that personal life is intertwined with professional life.
What do you think of the bold and virtuous journey they embarked on as trailblazers with their pilot farm inspired by local project Sant Rafel and their strong will to support regenerative agriculture as well as to preserve the local biodiversity in your area?
The Boténor's project is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate to the world the genuine value of the land, focused on human welfare. It aims to sustain ourselves through what the land offers and to ethically develop its resources, allowing us to nourish ourselves and truly appreciate what Menorca represents. It is a creation of Nature, resulting in the elegance and sophistication found in skin care and pampering. Within it lie the two aspects I cherish most: the blend of wildness and refinement.
The routine appreciated in Boténor are the habits that the whole family shares, habits that every family member can develop by learning to appreciate nature and incorporating it into our daily indulgences.
In which way have you been involved in the Boténor's project so far?
My engagement with them involves bringing everyday moments to life through creativity, capturing daily actions in their natural environments. I view their brand as a manifestation of care that arises from exploration and the courage to recognize an emotion that may negatively impact our well-being.
Boténor is an act of love, from emotional recognition to experiencing coherence in life, while being cared for and nurtured by nature, which is always reliable. It is there to sustain and nurture you as your face life's challenges and weariness. Boténor is the channel that conveys it to my feelings.
A perfect day on the farm includes engaging with what makes us feel, cultivating the land, cooking, writing, making music, and most importantly, reflecting on life. Guillaume and I are wrapped in a green blanket surrounded by a spectrum of colors that shift with the sun's movement, until darkness arrives, leading us into a new scene that evokes our emotions and inspires our art. We are eager in our exploration of human behavior, and time is growing increasingly scarce.
Our new project involves introducing flower cultivation to supply the island, along with creating floral arrangements and developing art pieces from them. We aim to create a cookbook that explains the origin of the passion for cooking and how everything is interconnected with it. Our goal is to work exclusively from our home, which we consider our sanctuary.
A message to our international creative and eco-conscious community
Like the greatest act of love, our tents, as they closed, whispered into our souls, telling us, "Now you must fly and return to where you belong in the midst of nature, and expand to the world who you are and what you have acquired within us. The truth of life and human beings."
