Homestead Cottage
Doolin
Ireland
This happy story, that we are sharing with you, could really start with the popular and magical 'Once upon a time in Doolin'. Indeed the latter is a kind of modern fairytale which absolutely deserves to be told. To send good vibes and give hope. After many years spent improving their skills and gaining experience working at special places such as eco-conscious Irish Gregans Castle Hotel where they met, in July 2023, Scottish chef Robbie MacCauley - and his wife French-born Sophie have opened a 200-year-old Irish traditional fishing cottage, located a short drive from the Cliffs of Moher or Doolin village, turned into a one-of-a-kind 35-seat country restaurant called 'Homestead Cottage'. A very special place to visit and, surely, the perfect stop for a gourmet lunch or immersive dining experience enjoying an evening of great local food and one of the best wine lists on the wild atlantic way in a relaxed environment. Wife and husband, mother and father of two little girls, the MacCauley are a lovely harmonious team. Sophie leads the dining room team with a vast experience from Bourgogne to the Burren while Robbie who is a proud ambassador of Slow food, as some of his talented compatriots Neil Forbes or Barrie Henderson, is carefully choosing the best of what is grown locally-organic if possible- and seasonally every single day. To offer the clients a simple and genuine delicious Irish Cuisine. Meals cooked with love, passion and a pinch of creativity. A menu that changes daily as to what is fresh, locally available and best in season. A few months ago, unexpectedly, the newly-opened family-owned restaurant was awarded with a prestigious Michelin Star. A great honor that the couple is proud of but that will not change Sophie and Robbie's who are more than ever intent on staying true to their original philosophy and vision of a slow, authentique and simple cooking and living in the respect of Mother Earth. "What makes 'Homestead Cottage' unique is our pledge to showcase the best of local and seasonal produce. We work directly with many local suppliers for both the kitchen and the front of house using irish linen, locally made soaps and candles, hand made pottery and locally produced non alcoholic offerings. Yes, we are a Michelin-Starred restaurant but without any of the stiffness or formal experience which, so often, turn people off high-end restaurants." they tell us. 'Homestead Cottage' will continue to be unique and celebrate and support all the local economy. And Sophie and Robbie will go on welcoming their happy guests as they did from day one. Warmly and grateful for this new family journey of theirs.
