Fortunately in life, it is never too late to turn an old long-cherished childhood dream into a reality. A personal project, close to one's heart, that, for multiple reasons, has been shelved for several years_even decades, and is still waiting to be fulfilled. Without notice, one day when time has finally come to follow one's inner calling and make it happen.
With a successful and rewarding career as a skilled graphic designer by trade behind her, a few years ago, Barcelona-based Meritxell Call Pons made the bold decision to follow her heart and take a leap of faith by quitting her job. The accidental discovery of a small bottle of desert-scented oil that had been forgotten in a drawer has rekindled her long-lasting passion for Mediterranean scents and natural cosmetics.
Willing to start a brand new chapter, she has embarked with confidence, passion and determination on a new exciting and very personal entrepreneurial journey as a proud and committed-to-the-environment founder and creative director. She has established  Smiroli, a niche and premium, Mediterranean eco-conscious and natural perfume and skincare house that transforms places and memories into unique sensorial experiences.
A sincere and beautiful personal tribute that Meritxell,  who was born and raised near Barcelona, is paying to the Mediterranean Sea, an iconic and magical sea that she has been contemplating ever since and is feeling deeply connected to.
A brand born from the art of slowing down that is an ode to presence, authenticity and the timeless rhythm of Mediterranean living.

Finally back to her roots where she belongs, Meritxell is proud to celebrate the Mediterranean essence and heritage. She has welcomed her new path with excitement and positivity. More than ever convinced that she is now doing what she was meant to do.

As the perfectionist professional she is who puts all her energy and heart into what she believes in, these past few years, she has immersed herself in the study of botanical raw materials, aromatherapy and natural formulation, discovering in them the poetry of pure creation.

She is a business woman on a mission: more than selling perfumes and skincare, her main aim is to offer customers a unique sensorial experience, a moment to breathe, to reconnect, to feel the invisible beauty that the Mediterranean whispers to those who truly listen. And in this way to revive the ancient Mediterranean art of perfuming with oils

Fascinated by aromas since her childhood - she used to collect perfumes and play with dousing her dolls' hair in cologne- and guided by intuition and a desire for authenticity, Meritxell has personally created the four charismatic Perfume Oils of the collection: The serene balance of Arles, the radiant joy of Palermo, the contemplative stillness of Vathi, the sacred renewal of Nilo. A one-of-a-kind olfactory and emotional map of the Mediterranean.

'Smiroli smells of the sea, of the Mediterranean in its purest form. That sea that also washes the East. Scents have always transported me and reminded me of each of my travels. ARLES, PALERMO, VATHI, and NILO are the first perfumes I have created, inspired by four places I identify with. I enjoyed creating them very much, and now I want to share them.' she is proud to tell us.

Each formula is crafted in Barcelona from natural raw materials, using pure essential oils and noble vegetable oils and plant extracts that preserve both the integrity of the skin and the soul of the Mediterranean.

Making the most of her background and expertise in design and communication, Meritxell has also been able to bring visual harmony and narrative sensitivity to the brand identity by blending her artistic touch with the precision of craftsmanship.

Her hard work behind the scenes has been internationally recognised in 2025 as her most emblematic creation, the “Beauty of Neroli” Serum face oil, a symbol of Mediterranean excellence, purity and innovation, has been recently awarded by European Natural Beauty Award with the EXCELLENCE PRODUCT AWARD. A first well-deserved big milestone for such a young and promising ethical and earth-friendly skincare brand.
