L.F. Markey

London

United Kingdom

Australian-Born Louise Markey moved to London in 2002 at the young age of 22. After working in surfwear in her hometown Sydney, she entered into the Luxury fashion industry as a designer for the Burberry London line, at the time of Christopher Bailey was the Creative Director in charge. As a first experience in the European Fashion Industry, it was for sure an incredible professional opportunity. After an unexpected funny one-year break spent in Paris, a city she loves, she went back to London to take her master's Degree at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. While she was designing for luxury brands as Mira Mikati and Thomas Pink, in 2013, she started to work slowly and with devotion at L.F. Markey, her own eponymous fashion label, established and based in East London. Prompted by her passion for traditional French 'bleus de travail' and artist’s smocks, Louise loves to design contemporary variations of workwear staple pieces, including signature boilersuits, chore coats, dungarees, work pants, and jeans. Every collection is designed for modern and active feminine women. The label, which has grown and is today stocked in over 40 accounts worldwide, available online, and since 2018 at the first flagship store- also a workshop and a place where events are planned- located in 58 Dalston Lane, is famous for a fun-infused aesthetic of simple, geometric shapes, bold colours and graphic handpainted print designs. The latter is a proud committed and eco-friendly brand, one of the ambassadors of the positive, slow and sustainable fashion. Sourcing sustainable fabrics is a duty and a priority at L.F. Markey. Moving all the production, ethycally-manufactured by choice, into Global Organic Textile Standard and sourcing wool yarn exclusively from suppliers who adhere to the Responsible Wool Standard, is currently in the process. After the kids collection, in 2019, the sister brand called Meadows and inspired by Victoriana revival of 1970s and folk wear, has been launched. The collections dip into a wide selection of historical inspiration from Tudor to The Renaissance, and fuses them with a modern sensibility.
