As a meeting can really change your life (professional or personal) from one day to another, a trip abroad also can. As it happened to Belgian bio-engineer Maayke Ruyffelaere when she was visiting the Andes mountains for one of the first times. There, she had a crush on the wild rosehip and its countless and unique properties and benefits for sensitive and reactive skins, like hers, struggling with eczema, acne and psoriasis. An unexpected discovery that will bring her, a few years later, back in Antwerp with her family after five years in Chile, to the brilliant and useful idea to develop and launch her own genderless plant-based natural, clean and effective skincare line. And use this wild plant, characterized by a very low ecological footprint, that ticks all the boxes, grows in wild conditions, such as rocky, sandy soils and the higher parts of the Andes mountains and does not need any water, fertilizers or external input. On the intersection of nature and science, and fruit of her long personal quest for a transformative solution for her own reactive skin, Maiwe was born in October 2020 at the occasion of the official commercial launch of the Rosehip Oil Serum, the first essentiel of a minimalistic beauty skincare routine and ritual. The name comes from the magical Lake Maihue (Maiwe in its original spelling) located in protected indigenous territory and surrounded by native forest, endemic plants and volcanoes. In the center of Antwerp, in Dodoensstraat 36, the young and promising brand which has turned 3 last October, has opened The Maiwe Lab which is a multifunctional space and a one-of-a-kind store where people can experience, shop, meet, attend workshops and talks, and get immersed in the world of Maiwe. "Maiwe is so much more than just a group of products. It's a way of life, and that's the way of life I want to bring to The Lab. But even more personal, Maiwe feels like a tool for me to lead an interesting life. And that interesting life is entirely created by the people I meet along the way." tells the happy and eco-conscious founder. At the beginning of December, Mayyke has welcomed some lucky fellows of her growing local community to reveal, in a very cozy and festive atmosphere, the new Discover Set which contains the full Maiwe's range in travel sizes. Maiwe is resolutely on a mission to make you feel good about yourself and the skin you are in.
