The Nordic Barnhouse project

Denmark

Have you ever thought of designing the 'home sweet home' of your dreams? Bruno Jakobsen, a Danish architect and founder of the eponymous studio Bruno Jakobsen Design, did it. A few years ago, he indeed started to build the perfect house for himself, his wife Dorte, his children Silje and Tristan and their 2 sweet goats and 5 chickens. That is how the popular Nordic Barnhouse project was born. Designed as a modern interpretation of the classic long farm house, the family energy-friendly and committed-to-the-environment wooden house is nestled in the middle of a wild forest of deciduous trees and  Scots pines, on the natural plateau of a 10,000 square meters plot located close to the Danish river Gudenå and the Norwegean valley Gudennådalen. The construction consists of a residential part, a workshop, an orangery (Glass House) and a design studio for his owned architectural firm. Constructed outside and inside in lasting quality materials and with a sense of tranquility for both ears and soul. 'The facades are in Canadian cedar and the roof is in black steel.  Materials are Nordic and great work has been placed on creating a cozy home in calm and warm materials and colors. All the furniture (kitchen, bath etc...) are designed by me and built in Douglas wood. The floors are Italian limestone and  the ceilings are black Troldtekt design Line and provide absolutely fantastic acoustics in the construction' told us Bruno. As an ambassador of the virtuous and promising Slow architecture, Jakobsen has created a one-of-kind welcoming and functional house where to enjoy  quality time with his beloved ones and, of course, the "Hygge" that Danes are known for. The project has also been an exciting new professional challenge that allowed himself to play and test a new way of thinking about housing and architecture. ' It was important that everyone in the family should have the pleasure of looking at nature, regardless of where in the house they stay. Therefore, you can see several trees which are located very close to the house, they were protected from the start, so the project was designed around these..' What a lucky family!
